— The Journey

five spaces.
one knob.

The 1snob knob is a single number, k ∈ [0, 1]. As you turn it, the engine traces a journey through five anchor phases. The colour behind the knob is interpolated continuously by OneSnobMapper::getInterpolatedJourneyColour, and the sound follows.

TightRoomBloomSentientCrown
  1. 01k = 0.00 – 0.20

    tightneutral, dry, controlled

The starting position. Decay is short, diffusion is loose, the early reflections are tight against the dry. The room is barely there — a few hundred milliseconds, enough to glue an arrangement without colouring it.

Use Tight for spoken word, podcast bus, dry rock drums, anything where the dry signal is the point and the room is just structural cement. The Brain runs in low-density mode here: it's listening but not bothering.

Use it for: Glue without colour. Dialogue, dry drums, percussive bus.

  2. 02k = 0.20 – 0.40

    roomnatural, defined

A real space, modest in size. Stone-tile attack, soft early reflections, decay around 0.8 to 1.4 s. The Brain's spectral engine starts contributing: it ducks reverb energy in the band where the dry source is loudest, so the wet never fights the source.

This is the safe-and-musical zone. Most modern records sit somewhere between Tight and Room. The colour anchor is gold — warm, defined, present.

Use it for: Pop vocals, acoustic guitars, kit ambience that has to disappear into the mix.

  3. 03k = 0.40 – 0.70

    bloommusical bloom

The tail starts to sing. Decay grows past 2 s, the late field thickens, modulation in the diffusion network adds a soft chorus to long-held notes. You can still hear the source, but it's no longer alone.

Bloom is where Arna's character shows up. The warm anchor (Stage 3) is in charge here, and the Brain modulates the bloom intensity at audio rate: the louder you sing, the more it answers. Automate the knob through Bloom and you get the tape-like, breathing texture the plugin is named for.

Use it for: Lead vocals with intent, pad layers, ambient synth pads, dramatic strings.

  4. 04k = 0.70 – 0.90

    sentientthe plugin's own voice

Past Bloom the room becomes a presence rather than a place. Decay is 4 to 10 s, the network is fully modulated, the Brain's contribution is loud enough to be a second instrument. The signal doesn't sit in a room — it lives in Arna.

This is where the plugin earns its name. The orange anchor is in charge: not warm, not bright, just present. Strong recommendation: automate the dry/wet, not the journey, when you live up here.

Use it for: Cinematic transitions, vocal special effects, cinematic strings, sound design.

  5. 05k = 0.90 – 1.00

    crowndeep ember, infinite

The end of the journey. Decay grows toward 30 s and beyond. The Brain pulse is at its most active — every transient becomes a swell. At k = 1.0, with Freeze engaged, the tail is mathematically infinite: the network feeds back at unity gain, no decay applied.

The colour anchor is deep ember — copper that has been in a fire for a while. Crown is ambient territory, not mix territory. Use it deliberately, soak in it, then turn the knob back down to mix the take.

Use it for: Ambient music, drone, soundtrack beds, a held cymbal that becomes a chord.

— The knob, every phase

same body. different posture.

The hero knob doesn't change colour through the journey — the bloom behind it does. The musician still finds the knob by label and position, never by hue.

— Automate it

the knob is the texture.

The Journey was designed to be automated. Slow LFOs across the full range produce tape-like breathing. Quick swings between Bloom and Sentient give you a vocal that ducks into a chamber between phrases. A snapped jump to Crown at a transition turns a single hit into a chord.

Every DAW supports parameter automation; in REAPER, right-click the knob and choose Show track envelope. The plugin streams the parameter at audio rate so envelopes sound continuous, never zippered.
