arna in
ableton.
How to install Arna VST3, use it on a Return track, automate the journey, and wrap it in a one-macro rack. Six steps, six minutes.
install the vst3 bundle
Move the Arna1snob.vst3 bundle into ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/. Remove any older copy first (rm -rf) so Live picks up the new one.
toggle the vst3 plug-in folder
In Ableton Live: Preferences → Plug-Ins → toggle 'Use VST3 Plug-In Custom Folder' off and back on, or hit the Rescan button. Live will index Arna immediately.
drop arna onto a track
From the Plug-Ins browser, drag Arna1snob onto a Group or Audio track. The plugin opens at k = 0.30 (Room). Drag the knob vertically — or automate it on the track — to traverse the journey.
use the send/return pattern
Better for shared rooms: create a Return track, drop Arna on it, set Mix to 100% (so the Return is pure wet), then dial in sends from each track. Automating sends gives you per-clip wet levels.
automate inside arrangement view
Hit A to show automation lanes on the track. From the parameter selector pick Arna1snob → Knob. Draw a slow LFO across a section and you have breathing reverb.
wrap it in an audio effect rack
Drag Arna into an Audio Effect Rack and map a single macro to the Knob. You now have a one-knob rack you can stamp onto any track.
things only ableton users care about.
- Send/return is the right pattern for sharing one Arna across many clips. Drop a single instance on a Return track and dial in sends.
- Macro Racks: wrap Arna in an Audio Effect Rack and map a single macro to the Knob. You get a one-knob rack that fits any session.
- Push 2/3: the Knob and the Mix fader appear at the top of the parameter page automatically. Double-tap any encoder to enter a precise value.
- Freeze track:Live's Freeze does not interfere with Arna's internal Freeze button (Full edition); name the macro accordingly to avoid confusion.
- Capture & insert: after a take with a long Crown tail, hit Capture and the printed audio includes the full reverb (subject to track latency).
